In a statement issued by the Mexican presidential office Sunday, Calderon said that Chile "has our fraternal and solidary support" at this difficult hours.

"Chile is a country that has been with Mexico at good and bad moments; we are tied by fraternity ties. That is why the Mexican people are deeply hurt by the difficult situation Chile is facing," Calderon said during a public event in the north of Mexico.

Calderon added that he is sure that the Mexican people will support Chile in the same way they did with Haiti, "with solidarity and the work of everybody."

On Saturday the Mexican government also expressed its solidarity and condolences to Chile.

In a letter to Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, President Kaczynski said: "It is with great sadness that I have learnt about the earthquake which killed and injured many people."

"In this difficult time, I share the pain and the prayer with the families of the victims," the Polish president said, quoted by Polish media Sunday.

"On behalf of the Polish nation and myself, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the affected families, those who were forced to leave their homes, and those injured in the disaster," he said.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has also sent a letter of condolence to Bachelet, extending his sympathies over the tragedy.

"I want to assure you of the Polish nation's solidarity with the Chilean nation and people affected by this disaster," Tusk said.
