Brazil's Workers' Party (PT) is expected to announce the nomination of its Chief of Staff Dilma Rousseff as candidate for presidency on its fourth national congress that opened Thursday.

The nomination of Dilma Rousseff is scheduled for Saturday. President Lula da Silva, also a member of the Workers' Party, is expected to be present.

Analysts noted that as Da Silva has served two consecutive terms and can no longer run for presidency under Brazil's law, the party is facing tough challenges in the elections.

Attending the opening session of the conference, PT's former President Jose Dirceu said he is willing to collaborate with Rousseff in the campaign, and Rousseff welcomed his offer.

Analysts predicted that the party will readjust its campaign platform to enable the government to play a greater role in economy.

About 1,300 delegates elected by direct election attended the congress.
