Honduran deputies Thursday chose Juan Orlando Hernandez as the Congress leader.

At a closed door meeting, the 67 members of the Congress voted Hernandez as president of the Congress for the coming four years.

Three other deputies also contended for the position.

When his triumph was announced, Hernandez said it was a "great challenge" to be a Congress leader, adding the Congress would be open-door and seek the national unity.

Hernandez, a four-time deputy, was born in Lempira province of western Honduras.
