An Argentine soldier of the UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti died in Tuesday's major earthquake, said the police on Wednesday.

Gustavo Gomes, 33, died as a UN building where he stayed collapsed, said police commander Juan Pedro Rubio. His remains will be brought to Argentina for burial.

Gomes was doing advisory and support work for the Haitian National Police.

The other 13 Argentines of the UN mission are in good condition, said Rubio.
