Guatemalan police seized large amount illegal chemicals on Monday at La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City, news reaching here said.

More than a million tablets of chemicals that could be used for illegal chemical synthesis were found in 1,500 boxes at the airport's parking lot, national civil police spokesman Marco TulioTrejo told media.

The tablets are banned in Guatemala.

Trejo said there were no detentions and the tablets were probably from Colombia.

So far this year, the police has seized seven illegal shipments of such chemicals as President Alvaro Colom pledged to crack down on organized crime in the country.
