Three Canadian soldiers were killed when a roadside bomb blasted their armored vehicle during a patrol in southern Afghanistan, Canadian defense officials said on Wednesday.

Two others were injured in the incident which occurred northwest of Kandahar City at around 5:40 p.m. local time (1310 GMT) Tuesday, the National Defense Department said in a press release on its website.

The soldiers were conducting security operations in the area when the explosion occurred.
