Three Canadian soldiers were killed when a roadside bomb blasted their armored vehicle during a patrol in southern Afghanistan, Canadian defense officials said on Wednesday.
Two others were injured in the incident which occurred northwest of Kandahar City at around 5:40 p.m. local time (1310 GMT) Tuesday, the National Defense Department said in a press release on its website.
The soldiers were conducting security operations in the area when the explosion occurred.
The injured were evacuated by helicopter to an airfield hospital.
Canada has 2,500 soldiers deployed in Kandahar province. This latest incident brought the death toll of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan since 2002 to 111.
