The U.S. Congress has put restrictions on military aid to Pakistan by linking part of the aid package to benchmarks in "domocracy" and the fight against terrorism, CNN reported Thursday.

According to an omnibus spending bill approved by the Congress earlier this week, 50 million U.S. dollars out of the 300-million-dollar annual military aid to Pakistan will be subject to these conditions.

The bill said the 50 million dollars will be paid once Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice confirms that Islamabad is making progress in preventing al-Qaida.

Other conditions include the restoration of the constitution, civil liberties and an independent judiciary by Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf.

The United States reviewed its aid package to Pakistan after Musharraf imposed emergency rule last month.
