Two helicopters fell in the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo, with a 20 minute difference between them, killing two people on Thursday afternoon.

The first accident took place at 1:50 p.m. (local time), in the municipality of Carapicuiba, about one kilometer away from the place where the helicopter had taken off, a helipad operated by company Helipark.

Regina Ticolati and Joao Dantas de Moraes, whose ages were estimated at 50 and 18, respectively, got stuck in the wreckage of the helicopter and died. The aircraft's pilot, Inacio Bueno de Moraes Neto, and his wife, Regina Veloso, were rescued alive by the firefighters and taken to hospital on a Police helicopter.

According to the Fire Brigade, the helicopter, manufacturer by U.S. Robinson Helicopter Company, had flown less than a minute when it fell, and the pilot probably did not have time to try an emergency procedure. The causes of the accident will be investigated, and the National Civil Aviation Agency stated that the aircraft lacked a flying certificate because its insurance had expired.

The second crash happened at 2:10 p.m. (local time) in Mogi das Cruzes, also in the metro region. Another Robinson model fell, this time near a golf field in a region known as Porto de Areia. Two people who were on the helicopter got injured and were removed from the area by a Police helicopter. The Fire Brigade said that the causes for this accident also remain unknown.

The two episodes raise to nine the number of accidents involving helicopters in Sao Paulo over the past two years.
