At least three policemen were killed in a suicide bomb attack on a police station in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province on Sunday, a senior police officer said.

The bomber was riding a motorcycle and exploded his bomb near the police station in Multan city, said District Police Officer Zahid Akhtar. He said that 10 to 12 policemen were also injured in the attack.

The injured were transferred to the city's main hospital. Two policemen were registered critical, health officials said.

Witnesses said that the blast damaged the police check post at the city's busy commercial area Qaddafi square.

Reports said that policemen also had residential rooms on the top floor of the police post.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The police chief said that he has received information that the bomber was injured and arrested. He said doctors are trying to save life of the bomber to help in investigation to unearth the network of suicide bombers in Punjab.

The police check post was established near thickly populated area and the blast caused damaged to several houses.

TV footage showed damaged building of the police station. The authorities asked the residents near the police station to vacate their houses as they fear another blast, local TV channels reported.
