7 fishermen missing as typhoon Meari batters Philippines

Seven fishermen onboard two fishing boats were missing off the Catanduanes province in the Philippines ' Bicol Region as typhoon Meari (local name: Falcon) battered the country, police said Thursday.

Philippine National Police spokesman Senior Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said the two fishing boats with the fishermen onboard got lost in municipal waters of Virac town, Catanduanes province Wednesday morning.

Search and rescue operation was still ongoing, said Cruz.
