Abu Sayyaf abducts Indian national in S. Philippines

Terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group kidnapped an Indian national in southern Philippines, local police said Thursday.

Director Felicisimo Khu, chief of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations in Western Mindanao, named the victim as Biju Kolara Veettil, 36, who is married to Filipina Elena Ladiamuddin Asanji. He can't say what's the motive behind the kidnapping.

Khu alleged Abu Sayyaf members snatched Veettil Wednesday night in Patikul town, Sulu province. Citing intelligence information, Khu said the victim was brought in Tugas village, also in Patikul town. The kidnapping was led by Abu Sayyaf leader Jurim Hussin. Other members of the group that took part in the kidnapping were identified as Ninok Sappari, Mamih Samlahun, Almudjir Yadah, and Namil Aharadji, alias Gapas.

Local police is said the group was responsible for the May 7 kidnapping of Filipino-Chinese businessman Nelson Lim.
