Vietnam Airlines Company Limited (Vietnam Airlines) will begin a direct service to the British capital London on Dec. 8, according to the carrier on Tuesday.

Vietnam Airlines would fly twice a week each from southern Ho Chi Minh City and capital Hanoi to Gatwick Airport, 46 km south of London, using Boeing B777-200ER aircraft. The frequency would increase to seven times a week by 2014.

This will be Vietnam Airlines' fourth direct route from Vietnam to European cities, beside those to Paris (France), Frankfurt ( Germany) and Moscow (Russia), the airlines said in a statement.
