Moderate quake hits Sumatra, Indonesia

A shallow moderate quake measuring 5.5 on Richter scale struck off Sumatra island of Indonesia on Tuesday morning, the country's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported here.

The quake jolted at 7:08 a.m. Jakarta time (0008 GMT) with epicenter 30 km southeast if Tarutung of North Sumatra and with a depth 10 km, the agency said.

The U.S. Geological Survey earlier put strength of the earthquake at 5.3 on the Richter scale. No reports of casualties or property damage were available now.
