Unidentified gunmen abducted an engineer and two businessmen in the southern Philippine province of Lanao del Norte, a military official said Thursday.

According to Brig. Gen. Daniel Lucero, commander of the 103rd Brigade, Boyet Alumbro, Alexander Lim and Edgar Gomez were abducted Wednesday at the vicinity of Samboron village in Linamon town.

Initial investigation revealed the victims were heading to nearby Cagayan de Oro City when they were flagged down by the unidentified armed group wearing Philippine National Police (PNP) shirts about 9 a.m. (local time) Wednesday. The suspects commandeered the victims' vehicle and sped off towards Lanao del Sur with their three hostages, according to Lucero.

Police and military forces immediately launched pursuit Thursday after they were alerted by civilians that a vehicle was torched in the village of Timbangalan in Marawi City. The burned vehicle - a Toyota Fortuner with plate number ZBU-135 - belongs to the victims.

Lucero said they haven't received any ransom demand from kidnappers. Police and military are still pursuing the kidnappers.
