South Korea's defense chief is set to leave for Singapore on Friday to attend a security forum and hold talks with his counterparts, officials in Seoul said Thursday.

Defense minister Kim Kwan-jin is scheduled to give a keynote speech Saturday at the two-day Asian Security Summit, also known as the Shangri-La Dialogue, on power distribution in East Asia and its implications.

The minister will also meet Saturday with his Chinese, Japanese, Australian and Singaporean counterparts for talks over expanding defense ties.
