Explosion rocked Ghazni city, the provincial capital of Ghazni province 125 km south of capital city of Kabul on Wednesday, causing no loss of life.

"An explosive material went off near a mobile-phone tower at around 14:00 local time (0930 GMT) in downtown Ghazni city but fortunately no civilian or security forces were hurt in the blast, " provincial police chief Zarawar Zahid told Xinhua.

However, he did not blame any group for the attack.

The Taliban militants who have been waging a fierce insurgency now in its 10th year, often voiced threats to mobile phone companies over the past couples of years.

The Taliban fighters have recently warned the companies to shut down operation especially during night time hours in a number of Afghan provinces including Ghazni and neighboring Zabul province.

Taliban said that locals have been using mobile phone as a spying instrument to call security forces and provide information about their movement at night, thus facilitating Afghan and NATO- led troops to target them.

Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since the militant group announced on April 30 to start spring offensive against Afghan and NATO-led international forces.
