Syrian FM arrives in Baghdad on official visit

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Mualem arrived in Iraqi capital Baghdad on an official visit Tuesday to meet with Iraqi leaders and discuss bilateral ties.

Mualem, who is heading a high-ranking Syrian delegation, was received at the Baghdad airport by his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar al-Zebari.

During his one-day visit, Mualem is expected to meet with the Iraqi leaders to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and the latest development in the region.

On Jan. 15, the then Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Naji Otri paid a visit to Baghdad and held meetings with Iraqi leaders, including his counterpart Nuri al-Maliki.
