5.4-magnitude quake hits New Britain region, Papua New Guinea -- USGS

An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale jolted New Britain region, Papua New Guinea 5:33 p.m. local time (07:33:13 GMT) on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 113.00 km, was initially determined to be at 5.8344 degrees south latitude and 149.3044 degrees east longitude.

The epicenter is some 464 km northeast of Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea.

So far there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage.
