The five-day 2nd India-Africa Forum Summit will kick off in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, on Friday under the theme of "Enhancing Partnership: Share Vision."

The summit, an important platform for India and Africa to cooperate and coordinate in a spate of political and economic issues, is held every three years.

The First Indian-Africa Forum Summit, staged in New Delhi in 2008, attracted Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and leaders from 14 African countries, who convened to forge a more contemporary partnership in key areas including trade, energy and cooperation on global issues like the United Nations (UN) reforms, terrorism and climate change.

The summit ended with the adoption of Delhi Declaration and the Africa-India Framework for Cooperation, both of which provide the blueprint for India-Africa dialogue and engagement in the 21st century.

India announced at the summit that a substantial increase in the existing lines of credit to Africa to 5.4 billion U.S. dollars over the next five years, and a separate grant of 500 million dollars for projects in the areas of capacity building and human resource development.

The upcoming 2nd India-Africa Form Summit is expected to draw more than 10 heads of governments and states from India and Africa, who will have an extensive discussion on issues of environmental protection, energy, food security, investment and trade and UN reform, just to name a few, under the framework of the India-Africa partnership.
