Senior U.S. diplomat visits Myanmar

Senior United States diplomat Joseph Yun arrived in Myanmar capital Nay Pyi Taw Wednesday on an official visit to continue engagement with the Myanmar new government.

During his four-day visit till Saturday, Yun, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and the Pacific, will meet Myanmar foreign minister U Wunna Maung Lwin, and deputy speaker of the House of Representatives (Lower House) U Nanda Kyaw Swar, according to diplomatic sources.

Yun will also meet with noted opposition figure Aung San Suu Kyi in Myanmar largest city of Yangon, the sources added.

Yun is also expected to consult a variety of other stakeholders, including representatives of political parties, non-governmental organizations, ethnic minorities, as well as business community, U. S. State Department spokesman Mark Toner said before Yun's departure.

It is Yun's second visit to Myanmar since December last year.
