Gun battle between Taliban militants and security forces left a Taliban insurgent dead while a mine planted by militants wounded four policemen in Kunduz province 250 km north of capital city Kabul on Monday, officials said.

"Security forces killed a Taliban insurgent, Qari Abdul Waheed, and captured another in Dasht-e-Archi district at 01:00 p.m. local time today" district governor Shikh Sadudin told Xinhua.

There were no casualties on security forces, he contended.

In a related incident, a roadside bomb organized by Taliban militants struck a police van, wounding four police constables in the neighboring Qalai Zal district on the same day Monday, district police chief Abdul Majid said.

"A mine planted by Taliban rebels struck a police vehicle leaving four policemen injured," Majid told Xinhua.

Taliban militants have speed up activities over the past one week since the outfit announced to launch spring offensive from May 1.
