Myanmar forms national defense, security council

Myanmar has formed an 11- member national defense and security council with president U Thein Sein as its chairman and commander-in-chief of the defense services General Min Aung Hlaing as one of its members, according to state radio and TV Thursday.

Other council members include two vice presidents -- U Tin Aung Myint Oo and Dr. Sai Mauk Kham, speaker of the parliamentary house of representative (Lower House) U Shwe Mann, speaker of the house of nationalities (Upper House) U Khin Aung Myint, deputy commander- in-chief of the Defense Services Lieutenant-General Soe Win, union defense minister Major-General Hla Min , foreign minister U Wunna Maung Lwin, home minister Lieutenant-General Ko Ko and minister of border affairs Major-General Thein Htay.

The formation came a day after new President U Thein Sein's government cabinet was sworn in to office on Wednesday, taking over power from the previous ruling military government, the State Peace and Development Council, which declared dissolution itself after the power transfer.
