Tokyo stocks closed sharply higher Friday with the key Nikkei index up 2.72 percent.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Average jumped 244.08 points to 9,206.75. The broader Topix index was up 19.59 points, or 2.42 percent, to 830.39.
Trading volume on the main section contracted to 3,318.39 million shares from 4,106.90 million Thursday.
On the First Section advancing shares beat declining ones 1,545 to 110, with 23 others remaining unchanged.
