6.3-magnitude earthquake hits off east coast of Japan's Honshu

An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale jolted the waters off the east coast of Honshu, Japan at 11:23 p.m. Beijing Time Tuesday, according to the China Earthquake Network Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10 km, was monitored at 40.4 degrees north latitude and 143.2 degrees east longitude, the center said in a statement.
