The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Indonesia are ready to help Japan to gain its recovery following a massive earthquake and a deadly tsunami that struck northeastern Japan on Friday.

"ASEAN member states stand ready to render their support in the efforts to help bring about a swift recover in whatever way it can, recognizing that some member states have already pledged assistance," said ASEAN in a press statement here on Saturday.

It also said that ASEAN member states are confident that the government and people of Japan will fully recover and rise from these unfortunate disasters with strong spirit and resilience.

"ASEAN member states extend their heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the government and people of Japan, and particularly those affected by this disaster. They hoped that the bereaved families of the victims would be given strength and comfort in facing this calamity," it said.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said in a separate statement that Indonesia has offered help to Japan.

"Related to development of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the president of Indonesia, the government of Indonesia and all people of Indonesia once again extend deepest condolences on the disasters," he said.

Natalegawa added that President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has instructed him to inform the Japanese government about Indonesia's preparedness to help address the disaster.
