Magnitude 6.3 quake hits New Britain region, Papua New Guinea

An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale struck New Britain region, Papua New Guinea on Thursday, according to the China Earthquake Network Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of about 30 kilometers, was monitored at 6.0 degrees south latitude and 149.7 degrees east longitude, the center said in a statement posted on its website.
