Cathedral bells tolled around New Zealand at 12.51 p.m. local time Tuesday in remembrance of those who died in the Christchurch earthquake.

A two-minute silence was held across New Zealand at the moment, a week after the magnitude 6.3 tremor struck the South Island city of Christchurch.

New Zealand police said on Tuesday that the death toll from the Feb. 22 Christchurch earthquake could be as high as 240.

Police said, with the recovery of three bodies overnight, 154 were confirmed dead with another 50 still missing.
