Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard will pay her first visit to the United States on March 7, the White House said on Wednesday.

President Barack Obama "looks forward to discussing with Prime Minister Gillard the strong ties between the United States and Australia, our shared political and economic interests in the Asia- Pacific region, and our work together around the world, including in Afghanistan and as members of APEC and the G20," the White House said in a statement.

This will be Gillard's first visit to Washington since she became prime minister in June last year. Her visit comes on the occasion of 60th anniversary of the U.S.-Australia alliance.
