9 dead in attack on Afghan Jalalabad bank

Nine people were killed and over 70 others injured on Saturday in suicide bombings and shooting attack on a bank in Jalalabad city, capital of Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, an official with the local health department said.

Three insurgents entered a branch of Kabul bank in Jalababad city Saturday morning and begun opening fire on police.

Taliban claimed responsibility for the incident.

Zabihullah Mujahid, who claims to speak for Taliban outfit, in talks with media via telephone from undisclosed location, said three Taliban suicide bombers equipped with assault rifles entered the Kabul bank.

Explosions inflicted huge casualties on policemen and army soldiers, who were standing in line to receive their salaries from the bank.
