Remote-controlled blast kills 2 policemen in northwest Pakistan

At least two policemen were killed and four others injured in a remote-controlled bomb attack on a police van near northwestern Pakistani city of Bannu on Tuesday, local media reported.

According to Urdu TV channel Aaj, the police van was on its way to Miran Shah during its routine patrol when a remote-controlled explosion hit it in Jani Kheil area near Bannu.

In the explosion two policemen were killed on the spot while four others got serious injuries. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police rushed to the site after the blast and cordoned off the area for further investigations.

This is the second attack on police on Tuesday. Earlier, one police official was killed and four others injured in a remote- controlled bomb blast in the provincial capital Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for both attacks.

Bannu district locates in the east of North Waziristan, a troubled tribal area bordering Afghanistan, which is believed to be a stronghold of militants.
