Personnel of Afghan National Directorate of Security (NDS) or intelligence agency netted five terrorists and thus thwarted potential terror attacks in the capital city of Kabul, spokesman of NDS Lutfullah Mashal said on Thursday.

"Two groups of terrorists included five persons have been detained over the past couple of days," Mashal told reporters in a press conference.

He said the personnel of NDS had arrested Zia-ul Rahman Maddani and Abdul Rahman who were planing to organize bomb attacks against government interests including Kabul International Airport.

Security personnel also discovered 12 pieces of explosive devices including magnetic mines from their possession, the spokesman further said.

Both the arrested men are members of Haqqani network - the military wing of Taliban outfit, he added.

According to Mashal, the second group, composed of three terrorists detained in Kabul days ago, was involved in organizing two suicide bomb attacks in Jan. 12, 2011 and Dec. 19, 2010 that left seven people including five army soldiers dead and 18 injured.
