Afghan and NATO-led forces apprehended five terrorists during an operation carried out in Shindand district of Herat province Monday night, a police official said Tuesday.

Based on intelligence reports, joint forces went to a compound in Shindand district and detained five Taliban terrorists, a press officer of police department in the province, Hamid Brahawi, told Xinhua.

The arrested men, he added, were involved in several terrorist attacks in Herat province some 640 km west of capital city Kabul over the past one year.

The joint forces also found a handful of weapons from their possession, he said.

Taliban militants have yet to make comments.
