Afghan troops kill 1 militant, detain 5

Afghan troops during operations elsewhere in the conflict-ridden country have eliminated one insurgent and captured five others since Monday morning, a statement released by the Defense Ministry said here Tuesday.

"Soldiers of Afghan National Army (ANA) during operations over the past 24 hours have killed one anti-government insurgent and detained five others elsewhere in the country," the statement asserted.

Troops during the operation, covered parts of Paktia, Kandahar and Helmand provinces, also destroyed a mine making factory besides seizing numerous arms and ammunitions including anti- personnel and anti-tank mines, rocket-propelled grenade and thousands of mortar and Kalashnikov rounds.
