Gunmen in the southern Philippines seized two traders on Monday, police said.

Col. Prudencio Asto, spokesman for the Philippine Army's 6th Division, said Tuesday that armed men abducted trader Habib Sacaria and his wife Nora Dicay around 7 p.m., local time. The couple were driving along the highway in the town of Matanog in Maguindanao province, when gunmen stopped their vehicle and forcibly seized them at gun point.

Asto said the couple just came from a business trip in nearby town of Malabang and were heading home when they were kidnapped.

No one group claimed responsibility for the abduction.

Lawmen are investigating if the perpetrators behind the latest abduction were the same people who, two weeks ago, kidnapped a Chinese Filipino businessman in Cotabato city.
