Unknown militants shot dead a female constable and her five family members on Friday morning in Hangu district of militancy-hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, northwest Pakistan, local TV channels reported.

Armed persons broke into the house of the police constable, Shamshad Begum, and opened indiscriminate firing, reported private TV SAMAA quoting police sources.

As a result of the attack, Begum, her two sons and their wives were killed on the spot.

In another incident, police foiled a potential terrorist attack in Hangu district when they killed a man carrying a suicide vest and hand grenade for the attempted bombing.

According to police, they signaled a suspected person to stop for checking, but he tried to run. Then police fired at him, killing the suspect on the spot.

One hand grenade and a suicide vest were recovered from the possession of the killed man, police said.
