QF17, which departed Sydney International Airport at 11:11 a.m. (local time) on Monday with 119 passengers on board, turned around about one hour into the flight to Buenos Aires, a Qantas spokeswoman said.
It's not yet clear what the issue is but the pilots are dumping fuel from the Boeing 747 as it heads towards Australia.
Qantas is unable to say what time the flight is due to land in Sydney.
