"The operation covered Pashmol and Reg villages on Saturday during which two commanders of insurgents namely Abdul Khaliq and Kako were killed," the statement added.
Another commander Mullah Rahmatullah received injuries during the operation, it further said.Taliban militants have yet to make comment.
Kandahar has been the scene of increasing Taliban-led militancy over the past couple of years. To ensure lasting peace there in Kandahar, a joint Afghan and NATO-led forces operation has been going on in parts of the province since early September.
