All Hindu Nepalese are marking their greatest festival Vijaya Dashami on Sunday with merrymaking and vigor.

The 10th day of the Bada Dashain festival known as Vijaya Dashami is being celebrated all over Nepal on Sunday with great enthusiasm by receiving Tika and blessings from elders.

Vijaya Dashami is observed as a celebration of victory over evil. It is believed that Lord Rama from the Hindu mythological epic, Ramayana, defeated the evil Ravana on the very day.

The worship of Sri Durga Bhawani at Dashainghars over the past nine days concludes formally on the day of Bijaya Dashami after the Abhishekh or sprinkling of holy water takes place marking the beginning of Tika.

Various Nepali leaders on the occasion issued messages wishing a prosperous Dashain to all Nepali people.

President Ram Baran Yadav has extended best wishes to all the Nepalese around the globe for happiness, peace and prosperity on the auspicious occasion of Vijaya Dashami, issuing a message on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami on Sunday.

In his message the President said, "Our national pledge to making the State secular, democratic republic and inclusive is not only a historic achievement but also a guideline for building a prosperous Nepal."
