Thai PM to leave Wednesday for UN General Assembly

Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva is to leave for the 65th session of the United Nations General Assembly and the US-ASEAN Summit in New York on Wednesday, Thai News Agency reported.
The UN General Assembly is scheduled on Sept. 20-22 with the prominent agenda to achieve the Millennium Development Goals in which heads of states are committed to reach their goals by the year of 2015. The goals include reducing poverty, combating disease, fighting hunger, protecting the environment and boosting education.
The prime minister is also scheduled to meet American investors and business participants from the US-ASEAN Business Council Thursday afternoon to boost investor confidence.
For the second US-ASEAN Summit scheduled for Sept. 24 alongside with the UN General Assembly, the Thai premier will discuss the necessity and roles of the United States in the Southeast Asian region.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) consists of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
