At least five people were killed on Monday when a suspected U.S. drone launched an airstrike at North Waziristan in Pakistan's northwest tribal belt bordering Afghanistan, local sources told Xinhua.

The pilotless aircraft fired missiles targeting a vehicle in Datta Khel area of North Waziristan, the sources said, adding that the killed were not immediately identified.

It is the third time that the area has been stricken by the U.S. drones over the last four days. On Friday night, a U.S. drone strike killed 14 people including children and women. A second attack on Saturday night killed another six.

The U.S army has intensified the cross-border airstrikes from Afghanistan, intending to kill the militants hiding in the deep mountainous areas along the border, but many civilians were also mistakenly killed in such strikes. There are reports saying that the ratio of civilians killed against the militants in such strikes stands at 25:1.
