Indonesian House of Representative Speaker Marzuki Alie on Monday urged people not to react emotionally related to dispute with Malaysia as it could bring negative impact to the country's image.
"Relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia has been interrupted recently caused by detention of officials from the Ministry for Marine and Fisheries, border issues and Indonesians who face death penalty. (However) Indonesians must not react emotionally that brings negative impact to our country,"said Alie in his remarks to celebrate the 65th anniversary of House of Representative and People Consultative Assembly.
He said that the parliament has discussed the matter with government in public hearings or in working sessions.
"We want the government to take strong stance. We should not feel as an inferior country before Malaysia. We should show our identity as a sovereign and dignified country," he said.
