Indonesian House of Representative (parliament) and Regional Representative Council (senate) will hold their first joint session on Aug. 16, a speaker said in Jakarta on Friday.

Irman Gusman, speaker of the Regional Representative Council, told the press that the joint session would have a very important constitutional meaning as the continuation of reforms agenda 1998 as well as the ordering of state system and parliamentary system in the country.

He said that the event will show Indonesians that reforms process keeps continuing.

"The senate gradually develops in line with reforms spirit in the country's parliamentary system," he said.

He also said that after the joint session, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will submit financial notes and a plan of state budget 2011 to parliament that will be attended by the senate members.

"They will not be only as invitees, but they will do their job in their function, task and authority to provide considerations on the state budget plan to the parliament," he said.

He stressed that the occasions will underscore position of the parliament and the senate to continue reforms agenda 1998 in providing more political rooms for regions to directly involve in national policies.
