Philippine President Bengino Aquino III on Friday said the United States and the ASEAN region will come first in his list of foreign trips for this year.

Aquino, in an informal chat with members of the presidential office Press Corps, said he will not be able to complete the eight foreign trips that the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has proposed that he attends.

He said the ASEAN region, where the Philippines belongs, should come first.

The United States is his "primary" destination because of the " deliverables." He said if his visit to the United States will push through, it would include California. New York, and Washington D.C.

He said he also wants to attend the Asia-Europe Meeting in Brussels because of the opportunity to interact with Asian and European leaders.

The DFA wants Aquino to represent the Philippines in the opening of the UN General Assembly on the second Tuesday of September in the U.S., the ASEAN Summit in Hanoi in October, the Asia-Europe Meeting in Brussels in October; and the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Yokohama, Japan in November. But he said he wants to ensure that the situation in the Philippines is stable first before going to trips abroad.
