Earthquake hits Philippines

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale occurred in the Philippine Islands Region Wednesday at 0048 GMT, according to a bulletin released by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The epicenter was initially determined to be 6.5 degrees north latitude and 127 degrees east longitude, about 170 km east- southeast Davao, the Philippines.
