The house of a local official was blasted on Tuesday night in the southern Philippines but there were no reported casualties, a military official said Wednesday morning.

Regional military spokesman Randolph Cabangbang told Xinhua by phone that two men riding blue motorbike threw a hand grenade at the house of Talib Abo Jr., a board member in the southern province of Maguindanao, in the southern city of Cotabato around 8: 30 p.m.

"The grenade landed at the house's garage and then it exploded. Nobody was hurt. The service vehicle of Abo was partially damaged, " Cabangbang said.

He was not certain if Abo was inside the house then but said soldiers conducted pursuit of the perpetrators.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but Philippine security forces suspected Al-Qaeda linked militants were behind.

"The motive of the incident could not be ascertained. Police are still investigating," he said.

In July last year, six people were killed and dozens were wounded when a homemade bomb exploded in front of a Roman Catholic Church in Cotabato.
