Australian troops were involved in the death of a local Taliban commander in Afghanistan in July, official announced on Monday.
Defense official said the death of Mullah Dawood, who coordinated attacks using improvised explosive devices (IED) and small arms on coalition troops, would significantly disrupt such attacks.
Australian troops were still at risk from IED attack, defense official said in a statement, adding that three Australian soldiers have been killed and 34 wounded by IED attacks in Afghanistan's Oruzgan province this year.
Soldiers from the Afghanistan National Security Forces also assisted in the operation against Mullah Dawood, who died on July 14 in the Deh Rafshan region of Uruzgan.
No Australian or Afghanistan soldiers were hurt in the operation.
