Bhutto, two-time elected prime minister of Pakistan, was killed by an unknown suicide bomber when she was leading a public rally on Dec. 27, 2007 in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, near the capital Islamabad.
"Please continue the fight against extremism, dictatorship, poverty and ignorance," said Zardari while recalling his late wife.
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday laid the foundation stone of the Benazir Bhutto Memorial at the Shakarparian hills in Islamabad. "This monument will remind us of the great services of our leader," said Gilani.
Meanwhile, the slum children organized a big event in the slum area of the capital city, where children and professional artists presented tableaux, puppets show, national songs, folk songs and comedy skits.
However, members of her party and followers, on Bhutto's birth anniversary, are also showing their dissatisfaction over the investigation and legal proceedings regarding her murder.
"Political workers want quick and prompt action; they want criminals to face justice," said senator Safdar Abbasi.
At least five forums, involving successively the Joint Investigation Team, Scotland Yard, UN Commission, FIA and a three- member committee, have been constituted ever since Bhutto's assassination but each of them was restricted to fact-finding alone.
