Vietnam's police have discovered more than 17,700 economic crime and corruption cases over the past 12 years, which involved a total of 176.6 trillion Vietnamese dong ( VND) (over 9.5 billion U.S. dollars).
The figures were released here at an online conference that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security held with police forces across Vietnam, the report said.
Addressing the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong highly valued the achievements by the local police in busting various crimes, particularly corruption in the 1998-2010 period, the report said.
"Police, government agencies and local companies must join political, ideological education and publicity campaigns and uproot any cadres who are found corrupt and moral eroded," Trong said.
