Thailand's Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Tuesday that the enforcement of the state of emergency is still necessary, according to a Thai News Agency (TNA) report.
"The Center for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) is still closely monitoring the anti-government group of United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD)," Abhisit said.
It is said that the UDD protestors could possibly stage a new anti-government rally.
From April 7, the emergency rule has been imposed in several provinces, including Thailand's capital Bangkok, giving police and army expanded powers to control the then anti-government protests.
In a bid to ensure security, the state of emergency's enforcement has been maintained though the anti-government protests ended on May 19. The protests caused tremendous losses and damages to the country.
