A series of activities have been lined up on Saturday in conjunction with the official birthday of Malaysian Supreme Head Mizan Zainal Abidin.

In the morning, Mizan and his wife Nur Zahriah were accorded the honor of 21-gun salute at Dataran Merdeka, or literally the Independence Square.

Their Majesties also witnessed the fly-past by five helicopters from the armed forces carrying the flags of Malaysia, the armed forces and their three branches.

The ceremony was to pay homage to the supreme head as the commander-in-chief of the country's armed forces.

Also present were Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, Defense Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and their spouses.

The official birthday of Malaysian Supreme Head falls on the first Saturday of June every year.

Later at the national palace, some 5,000 guests, including foreign diplomats, attended the tea reception to celebrate the joyful occasion with Mizan.

They were entertained by several singers and performance groups.
